Ecocreation builds on-site composting machines - the Ecodigester - that turn an organisation's daily organic waste into dry, usable compost within 24 hours, cutting the volume by around 85%. The machines run on a heat-, salt- and acid-resistant bacterial culture, and are used by restaurants, hotels, universities, care homes and industry across Europe. JDT Engineering worked closely with Ecocreation through the years in which they began building their own machines, helping to design the EC-series and creating the platform that keeps the whole fleet connected.
What JDT Engineering built
When Ecocreation moved from concept to building their own machines, JDT Engineering helped design the hardware and the electronics that make an Ecodigester run reliably, day in, day out - scaled across the EC-30 to EC-100 range (and on up to the larger industrial units):
- Drive line & mixing - the central shaft, paddles, gearing and motor that continuously turn and aerate the compost mass
- Heating system - controlled heating that drives moisture out of the mix so the bacteria can work fast
- Airflow & odour control - the airfan and odour filter that keep the process aerobic and the exhaust air clean
- Feeding - an automatic bin lifter and feed screw so a full waste bin can be tipped straight into the machine
- EcoPLC control system - the PLC logic, wiring and operator panel that sequence heating, mixing, dosing and safety across every model
- Ecoremote telecontrol platform - a cellular-connected cloud application that lets Ecocreation and its service team monitor, configure and control the whole installed fleet remotely, with live status and alerts
Ecoremote - the live dashboard
Every machine JDT helped build streams its live state to Ecoremote, the connected platform we developed for Ecocreation. From a phone or browser, operators and Ecocreation's service team can see exactly how each unit in the field is doing - process state, compost and mat temperatures, hatch and funnel sensors - with a rolling temperature history and alerts when something needs attention. The example below shows a single machine's live view.
| Time until eco mode | 22:00:27 |
| Mat sensor 2 temperature | 120.4 | °C |
| Mat sensor 1 temperature | 120.3 | °C |
| Current compost temperature | 50.0 | °C |
| Filling hatch closed | Yes |
| Emptying hatch closed | Yes |
| Emptying funnel present | No |
Key features
- Waste to compost in 24 hours - organic waste reduced to roughly 15% of its original volume
- Robust bacterial process - a heat-, salt- and acid-resistant culture handles a wide range of food and green waste
- A range of sizes - from ~30 kg/day up to several hundred kg/day standard, and industrial units to thousands of kg/day
- Continuous, low-effort operation - fill daily, empty roughly once a week
- Connected by design - every machine is remotely monitored and serviceable through Ecoremote
- Made in Holland - deployed at restaurants, hotels, universities, care organisations and industrial sites across Europe
