The Howler MK2 is the latest generation of the Howler, a compact, rugged recorder and livestreamer built for DJs, musicians and performers. It plugs inline between a mixer or controller and the sound system, and captures a set in studio quality while simultaneously streaming it live - no laptop required.
Howler Audio is a separate company: a spin-off founded by JDT's founders together with Tim Janssen, an industrial designer and a friend of JDT founder Jim from their time studying together at TU Delft.
What JDT Engineering built
JDT Engineering is responsible for the full electronics and embedded development of the Howler, carried through to this second-generation MK2:
- Custom audio-path electronics - a clean, low-noise capture and monitoring path with balanced RCA inputs, a THRU output to feed the sound system, and high-quality analog-to-digital conversion
- Embedded firmware - recording engine (lossless WAV and MP3), the USB audio-interface mode, level metering and battery management
- USB-C power and connectivity - fast charging and a USB audio interface for streaming and screen-recording straight from a phone, tablet or computer
- Rugged, compact hardware - a pocket-sized aluminium enclosure engineered for life on the road
- Design-for-manufacture and production - refined across generations for reliable, repeatable volume production
Key features
- Studio-quality recording - lossless 24-bit / 48 kHz
.WAVor 320 kbps.MP3straight to a microSD card - Simultaneous livestreaming - stream a set in high-quality audio to a connected phone or tablet while it records
