LITTA began with a clear idea: a bicycle light that could stay on the bike, recharge from daylight and be ready when it was needed. JDT Engineering turned that idea into a working proof of concept, developing the prototype electronics and firmware needed to test the core technical assumptions in practice.
That early prototype established a practical foundation for what became a successful, useful product. LITTA continued refining the concept into the compact solar-rechargeable front and rear lights available today. The current-product photographs in this project show where that first working basis ultimately led.
What JDT built
Our job was to make the concept real enough to evaluate. JDT designed and built the initial working electronics and developed the embedded firmware for the proof-of-concept units. Those prototypes were used to explore whether a small bicycle light could harvest enough solar energy, manage its stored power efficiently and control the light reliably in everyday conditions.
The prototype work covered:
- Solar charging and battery-management electronics
- Low-power embedded control and firmware
- Motion and ambient-light sensing experiments
- LED control and energy-use optimisation
- Prototype assembly, testing and iteration
From proof of concept to product
The important result was not simply a circuit board; it was evidence that the idea could work as a coherent product. The prototypes brought the energy budget, sensing behaviour and lighting performance together early, giving LITTA a concrete technical basis to test, learn from and develop further.
Today, LITTA offers solar-rechargeable bicycle lights designed to remain attached to the bike, resist weather and reduce dependence on disposable batteries. The commercial product has its own refined enclosure, mounting system and user controls, while carrying forward the useful core proposition that the early prototype helped prove: dependable bicycle visibility powered by daylight.
