Sanitrax is a modular, trailer-mounted vacuum-flush restroom system built for festivals, large events, and field deployments. Individual toilet, urinal, and washbasin modules connect into configurable arrays, all coordinated by a central electronics platform that adds touchless operation, occupancy awareness, and remote monitoring to what was traditionally simple sanitary hardware.
Project Overview
Each installation is organised around a central Tech Module control panel, built on a Linux single-board computer that acts as bus master over an industrial M12 network. Individual modules -- toilets, urinals, washbasins, and an ADA-accessible unit -- report their status and receive commands across this bus, allowing an entire restroom facility to behave as one connected system.
JDT Engineering's Contribution
JDT Engineering designed and built the complete embedded electronics platform behind the Sanitrax system:
- Tech Module control panel -- Linux single-board computer with a USB-to-Modbus bus master driving the M12 module network
- Smart LED occupancy modules -- networked sensing units that show real-time stall availability
- Touchless flush panels -- capacitive sensing boards (Texas Instruments FDC2214) for fully hands-free operation
- ADA accessibility controller -- dedicated control electronics for the accessible module
- Cellular / LTE-M gateway -- connectivity for remote monitoring and data upload
- Sanitrax Cockpit software -- contributions to the cloud-backed web dashboard, plus a 3D layout composer and VR viewer that let operators plan and visualise facility arrangements
